Date Night with Myself

After feeling a bit couped up tonight I went out for a bit on my own. It’s not that I never go out on my own, it’s just not usually without an agenda, or something to pick up, or do. And for the most part when I do go somewhere it’s with my little 2 year old in tow. While that is as much fun as anything, sometimes it’s nice just to be with yourself.

Life gets so busy these days, if we’re not working we’re taking care of the family, if we’re not taking care of the family we’re on the internet researching. It seems the one thing we’re not taking care of is our relationship with ourselves…or maybe that’s just me. I sat for an hour in a used bookshop just browsing tonight and it felt great. I was exploring some of my interests that I’ve forgotten about and had a smile on my face a mile long.

It felt like a good reminder, that I wanted to share with you as well, to take yourself out once in a while. No agenda, no plan, just to enjoy your own company, and see who you find along the way.

Seeds of Change

I saw the words “Seeds of Change” today and started thinking how that might be applying in my own life. Things often seem static, and that the work we’re doing to create change isn’t showing an impact. But like a seed, our life takes time to grow and to develop into something that we can see on the surface.

Like our ideas, a seed is most vulnerable in the beginning stages. It needs nurturing, time, warmth, thought, and safety to allow the plant to grow through. Our life needs the same.

Take the ideas that you have and start by finding a safe place for them to grow, share them with only people who will help the nurturing, continue to help them develop by watering your ideas with your inspiration, trust in the process too. The seed knows how to grow into a plant on it’s own if we foster the right environment for it to have a chance for success.

Even in your darkest hour, where you feel that the change isn’t coming, remember where your seeds are planted. Ask yourself if you’ve watered them, kept them safe and given them enough time. If the answer is yes, then watch out, the shoot will come up soon. And if the answer is no, think about whether it’s time to plant a new seed that fits the soil of your life better.

A seed is an idea and a potential, your heart is it’s home. Nurture yourself and change will surely come when it’s matured.
