Finance Your Childhood

I had an interesting conversation with my aunt a few weeks ago about the 4h program in Idaho. She was telling me about how the children learn responsibility and project management by raising animals through the program. They also have an opportunity to sell their animals at a fair at the end of the year. Being a city girl myself, I was fascinated by this idea of empowering our children at an incredibly young age to learn skills in this way which translate directly to life now.

As a Program Manager for The Reconnection I find there is so much coordination going on that just managing that task alone takes up much of my time. How great would it have been to learn those skills at the ripe age of 10 years old?

Not only that but the earning potential of these children is amazing. They can earn hundreds of dollars for raising the animals that can go towards their college education, or even just a spending spree. The city in me likes that idea pretty well, the parent in me thinks it would be amazing for my child to have saved thousands of dollars to start their education off right.

I’m just sharing this idea with you because I think it’s a great way to think about opportunities for your children. What kinds of projects can you get them involved with that will challenge, inspire, excite and reward them in your local communities?

Let me know what other ideas you come up with!
